One of the unique projects I worked on was the installation of Lincrusta wallpaper in a luxurious residential home.

Lincrusta is a deeply embossed wall covering invented by Frederick Walton. Introduced in 1877, it has graced royal residences, railway carriages, Victorian buildings, and commercial settings such as hotels, bars, restaurants, and casinos.

For the project, Lincrusta was applied to the bedroom and dressing room walls and ceilings. Installing this historic, heavy material requires expert handling to preserve its unique texture and prevent damage. The process is labor-intensive, following precise steps and using special tools to secure the wallpaper properly. I possess the necessary skills and experience to work with such complex materials.

With notable installations in six Titanic cabins, the White House, the Winchester Mystery House, and the restored Roseland Cottage in Woodstock, Connecticut.

Banana stem fiber wallpaper was used

Encinitas is a unique wallpaper made from dried banana stems, dyed and cut into strips for a distinctive panel effect. This handmade, eco-friendly collection blends luxury with natural elegance. Installing it required advanced skills and innovative techniques for a flawless result.

Fig tree bark

In the niches, I installed Nimbus Solar wallpaper by Weitzner—a stunning, handmade design crafted from fig tree bark with a subtle golden finish. This wallpaper is all about blending natural materials, artistry, and modern aesthetics to create something truly special.

3D velvet wallpaper

I was entrusted with the complex installation of highly unique French 3D velvet-effect wallpaper, made up of layers of nonwoven material and a velvet surface with embossing, creating a visual sense of depth.
These wallpapers require special care to ensure that no liquids or adhesive come into contact with the surface. A very delicate approach is required throughout the installation process, from decision-making to project completion and handover.

Leather tiles

This project featured 12″ x 18″ natural leather tiles with a wax-treated surface, each unique in tone, size, and thickness. Their installation required precision in alignment, trimming, and specialized adhesive. Successfully completing this complex task, I achieved a stunning fireplace wall, leaving the client delighted.

Scalamandré Zebras Wallpaper

The project involved installing Scalamandré Zebras wallpaper in a 1903 house after the previous installer damaged it. This iconic, hand-painted design, famous from films like The Royal Tenenbaums, requires high precision and care due to the delicate inks. Despite the complexity, I successfully completed the installation, impressing the client so much that they even took a photo of me in front of the finished work.

Fromental wallpaper

The project involved installing a delicate silk wallpaper design featuring a cherry blossom garden with mythical symbols. The mural includes hand-painted artwork and embroidered silk patterns. Due to the fragility of the material, even minor contact with liquid can damage the design. Using specialized techniques and careful attention to detail, I completed the installation flawlessly.

For a Victorian-style home project, I used intricate wallpaper inspired by 19th-century designs. The wall finishing featured a combination of chrome-printed wallpaper with frieze and border elements, along with a frieze design depicting deer and rabbits. The wallpapers, known for their historical authenticity, were carefully selected to complement the home’s period style. The project included both the main hall with the staircase and the attic floor, achieving a seamless and elegant look throughout.

Each detail of the wallpaper evokes the Victorian era, creating a unique atmosphere in the rooms. My task was not only to install it but also to help the client determine the geometric directions of the frieze and pattern placement on the house’s many angled and non-standard surfaces. This made the installation more complex, as aligning the pattern on sloped areas was challenging. Drawing on my engineering knowledge, I used precise calculations and artistic techniques to achieve a flawless result.

I just can not stress enough how talented Oleksandr is on the installation side of Captain Wallpaper and Maria is on the responsiveness side to request for bids, getting insurance certs in place, scheduling the work and the follow up.
We had a project that one installer botched and due the difficulty of one of the (Zebra) print patterns, others refused to even give us a quote.
Captain Wallpaper came to the rescue and did the Zebra print first and did a perfect job. Every room they touched in the house is perfect.
They just finished a «Bradbury and Bradbury Wallpaper» frieze in an iconic arts and crafts home for us and nailed it.
I have been a GC for over 40 years and and Captain Wallpaper are the best and most talented wallpaper subcontractor that I have ever come across.
